Triumph Spitfire in Ploiestiul comunist / Triumph Spitfire in Communist Ploiesti

A sosit la Ploiesti in 1978, fiind proprietatea unui DJ. Actualmente, exista, dar dezasamblata si in stare proasta.

A ramas in familie peste trei decenii, fiind restaurata corect intre timp. In 2018 a fost pusa la vanzare. E una din putinele masini care au facut comunismul in Romania care au supravietuit in stare excelenta.

Renault 18 de prim-secretar / The First Secretary's Renault 18

Via Facebook, two very special photos showing an official visit in 1983, including the first secretary (the most important Communist Party official in the country)'s Renault 18.

I've written before about the Central Committee's fleet of Renault 18s. But this is a different one - those were black GTLs, whereas this is a dark blue lower-specification TL. It's difficult to say for sure what type of blue - "bleu ocean 430", or possibly "bleu fonce 460" as on the Dacia 2000. Today, only one from this series of TLs has survived, in Iasi, painted white and in poor condition.

Worth noting the 1-CS-101 registration number, the first one issued for the county.

Masinile Chisinaului / The Cars of Chisinau

Si Chisinaul avea o cultura auto interesanta in perioada interbelica.

Chisinau had an interestuing automotive culture in the inter-war period. Today, very few cars from then have survived - I know only of a white 1938 Packard though there are probably a few more. The images here come from a number of sources. Quite a few are from oldchisinau.com (link), showing races held in 1928 and 1928. As was normal in interwar Romania, the vast majority of cars were of American origin.

59-Chs - Ford V8 carosat special de firma germana Glaser, Dubasarii Vechi

96-Chs - Chrysler in 1929

109-Chs - Ford T, anii 30, folosit de muncitori imigranti

212-Chs - probabil un tourer american, in 1928

239-Chs - Buick, in 1929

250-Chs - Buick in 1928

252-Chs - Studebaker, 1929

319-Chs - Auburn, Dubasarii Vechi

324-Chs - Ford, Dubasarii Vechi (familia Donici, cred)

400-Chs - Dodge, 1928

500-Chs - camion Chevrolet in 1940

Totul despre Dacia Denem / All about the Dacia Denem

Un document foarte rar, recent intrat in colectie: totul despre Dacia Denem.

A very rare document, recently added to the collection: all you would ever need to know about the Dacia Denem. This document was prepared by the importer and sent to the UK press ... who largely remained profoundly uninterested (with the notable and somewhat ironic exception of Country Life). New info, at least for me: it seems it was always the idea to import the ARO 10 as the Dacia Duster. And there's no mention of the Denem Base, which notoriously had wheels as an "optional extra" for the grand total of £40.

From http://www.prewarcar.com, a mysterious photo of a 1935 Mercedes W18 290 Cabriolet B, found in a former Soviet country, possibly Azerbaijan. Its story is not exactly clear, but it seems to have arrived from Romania in 1945 as a war trophy, before being used by a film director. Today, it's in poor condition, missing its engine, gearbox and rear axle. We hope it will be restored, as it's a valuable and rare vehicle.

Throughout its eventful life, it's managed to keep its ACRR (Royal Romanian Automobile Club) badge, visible on the grille. This badge is very rare indeed: in communist Romania, such symbols of better days were not exactly placed on display. It's astonishing that a small detail like that could have survived in another country, and in pretty hostile conditions.
